To meet the essential product safety requirements on Kaufland, the following information must be provided for every regulated product:

Sellers, Take Action Now: Essential Steps for Success!

To stay compliant with the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR), follow these steps:

  • Review Your Products: Ensure all products you’re selling meet the safety standards outlined by the GPSR.
  • Verify Manufacturer Information:  Double-check that you have the details for the manufacturer or their EU-authorised representative.
  • Ensure CE Marking and Documentation: Confirm that products requiring CE marking have the correct documentation and compliance materials.
  • Check Safety Information: Make sure any required safety warnings and information are provided in the national language of the marketplace where you’re selling.

New Battery Rules: Must-Know Labeling Requirements

Starting 18th August 2024, new battery labeling rules under the EU EPR Directive 2012/19/EU take effect, impacting sellers, importers, and manufacturers across the EU to ensure proper labeling and disposal. Let’s check on what’s new.

Labelling Obligations

  1. CE Marking: Every battery product must display a CE marking, as required by Article 19.
  2. Operating Manual: Products must include a clear, legible manual with safety instructions.
  3. Producer Information: The following must be included:
  • Manufacturer’s name and legal form;
  • Registered trade name or trademark (if applicable);
  • Postal address and central contact point (if applicable);
  • Web address and email address.

Additional Requirements for Large Batteries

For rechargeable industrial batteries over 2 kWh and batteries in “light vehicles” (e.g., e-bikes, electric vehicles), you must provide:

  • Information on performance, durability, and power capacity at various charge levels.

Due to space constraints, this info can also appear on the packaging or in accompanying documents, but it must be in the language of the country where the product is sold.

Seller Responsibilities:

  • Sellers must verify that manufacturers and importers have complied with these expanded labelling requirements.
  • Batteries that do not meet these standards cannot be sold.

However, no additional measures are required from you as a seller on Kaufland Germany marketplaces.

New EU Deforestation-Free Supply Chain Rules: What Sellers Need to Know

Starting 30th December 2024, EU Regulation 2023/1115 on deforestation-free supply chains takes effect, targeting products linked to forest degradation. Sellers and exporters of specific commodities must ensure their products do not contribute to deforestation or forest damage.

Affected Products:

  • Cattle;
  • Cocoa;
  • Coffee;
  • Oil palm;
  • Rubber;
  • Soya;
  • Wood.

Seller Obligations

  • For Non-SME Sellers (Importers, Manufacturers, Exporters): Ensure your products are not sourced from deforested areas (post-31st December 2020) or linked to forest degradation after this date. Submit a due diligence statement via the EU Commission’s electronic interface (in development).
  • For SME Sellers: Collect and retain for five years the following information: supplier details, including name, trade name, trademark, postal address, email, and web address (if available) of operators or traders who supplied the products; due diligence reference numbers for those products; and the same set of details for traders to whom you supplied the products.
  • Kaufland Marketplace: No proof or due diligence statements are required to sell on the Kaufland marketplace. Online marketplaces are not obligated to conduct these assessments. However, staying compliant with the regulation is essential for your business.
